Siniora from Bkerke: We will spearhead the Pope’s welcoming delegation

Future bloc MP Fouad Siniora said Thursday that the visit of Pope Benedict XVI represents a milestone in the history of Lebanon and the Arab world in light of all regional changes.

Following his meeting with Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai in Bkerke, he said “we need support in the face of blowing hurricanes; our country's sovereignty is already violated on a daily basis by Israel, and unfortunately, now it is being violated by the Syrian regime”.          

Siniora pointed out that all the Lebanese people will benefit from the Pope’s visit; “he will convey a supreme message that should be preserved”.           

He added that Christians are an essential component “enshrined in the history of Lebanon and the region”.        

Siniora pointed out that he visited Bkerke to assure that the Future bloc’s partisans will be spearheading the Pope’s welcoming delegation. “We share common aspirations with Patriarch Rai; we both want the Lebanese to be equal in rights and obligations; we don’t want any party to dominate the other by force of by the use of weapons. We agree that Lebanon is a unique model of coexistence that takes legitimate institutions as a reference”, he said.           

In another context, Sources reported to LBCI that Former PM Siniora informed Patriarch Rai that the Future Bloc approves the smaller districts electoral proposal.
