Maher Mokdad returns to freedom on Monday

The spokesperson for the Mokdad Clan Association Maher Mokdad has been under investigation by the LAF Intelligence since Thursday evening. He was arrested 48 hours after his meeting with Major General Abbas Ibrahim, that led to the release of the Turkish abductee in Lebanon.       

According to a statement issued by the LAF Command, the security operation came as an implementation to judicial warrants related to the arrest of wanted persons for abductions, use of arms and road cut-offs. A troop from the LAF Intelligence Directorate managed to arrest Mokdad in Beirut's southern suburbs in a swift operation that did not include any gunfire. Interrogations with him began immediately under the supervision of the concerned judiciary.     

In this regard, an eye witness told LBCI that while Maher Mokdad was visiting a friend in Bir al-Abed, in the presence of party leaders and members of the family who participated in recent abductions, LAF troops surrounded the building and headed to the apartment. Once in, they informed him of the judicial warrant against him, handcuffed him and took him for interrogation.     

In a statement, the Mokdad family members voiced their respect for the Lebanese state, hoping that Hassan Mokdad will be released soon. They stressed that the operations they conducted came as a response to the abduction of Hassan in Syria, adding that they will not rest before he returns to them, safe and sound.       

Exclusive sources told LBCI that Maher Mokdad will be released on Monday following the completion of investigations.
