Chaos rules again in Roumieh

An officer was taken hostage by Fatah al-Islam inmates and around 17 were injured in a riot that broke out at Roumieh prison at dawn Friday. The riot started with a dispute over a decision to make changes in the responsibilities of soldiers and prisoner transfers from a bloc to another after fights broke out between inmates last week.

The National News Agency said four Internal Security Forces members and four prisoners were injured. The riot came to an end a few hours after it broke out following negotiations with the inmates that led to the release of the First Lieutenant and 12 other officers who were held hostage.

The injured inmates were taken to Dahr al Bashek hostpital while the ISF received treatment at Abou Jaoude hospital under heavy security. Meanwhile, the families of inmates held a sit-in outside the mosque of the Bekaa town of Majdal Anjar to protest the injury of the prisoner.
