Pierre El Daher: LBCI's progress is a model of media evolution

With the ferocious competition among all media institutions dominating the Lebanese scene, especially between LBCI and Al Jadeed TV, Al Akhbar Daily published on Monday an article concerning this matter.       

The article included interviews with LBCI Chairman Pierre El Daher and News Director Mariam Al Bassam of Al Jadeed TV.        

In this context, Daher argued that “LBCI’s prompt updates are only a reflection of media evolution.This is a natural thing!”, he affirmed.         

Daher added, “new media” imposes that journalism as a whole be reconsidered.     

“Today our audience is different. There is a new generation who was born in the digital era. They think differently and follow the news in a different way and stick to the 140 characters rule imposed by Twitter. Therefore, we decided to shorten the news and focused on the Breaking News applications,” Pierre El Daher affirmed.         

LBCI’s chairman Pierre El Daher stressed that "the company was only doing its duty while covering the case of the Lebanese detainees in Syria and the intention was not to strengthen the relations with the Shiite community."

“LBCI has always been free. There were times where some tried to limit its freedom but things have changed now”, Pierre El Daher said.       

For her part, Al Bassam denied claims that the two channels are competing.
