Harb: Bkerke meeting focused only on electoral law

MP Boutros Harb confirmed Friday that the Bkerke meeting was limited to the discussion of the electoral law.

Harb said that it appeared during the meeting that the matter needs deeper examination in light of the proposals put forth by the quadripartite committee, adding that another meeting will be held to discuss the “very serious issue” of elections.

Harb said, following the Maronite meeting held in Bkerke, that each draft law has positive and negative sides, explaining that he personally endorses an electoral law that allows citizens to cast their vote for a single candidate, as this is the best method to ensure optimal parliamentary representation.

It is worth mentioning that the participants will honor the lunch invitation extended by Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai and a statement will later be released to outline the subjects that were discussed during the meeting.
