Cabinet convenes with 72 items on its agenda
The Cabinet appointed Judge Jean Fahed as head of the Higher Judicial Council, and Judge Hatem Madi as State Prosecutor. It also appointed Judge Marwan Abboud as head of Lebanese Disciplinary Council and Fawzi Khamis as prosecutor of the Court of Audit.

The Cabinet is currently holding a regular meeting chaired by the Lebanese President Michel Sleiman and under the auspices of PM Najib Mikati.

The Cabinet meeting is set to discuss its 72-items agenda in addition to the appointment issue. Prior to the session, the Minister of Displaced Alaa Al-Din Terro mentioned that the appointments matter was not listed on the Cabinet’s agenda.

Sleiman had met with PM Najib Mikati prior to the session, whereby both discussed the general situation and the latest developments in the country.

The President began the meeting by briefing the Ministers on the results of his trip to Latin America, whereby he chaired the Arab group at the Third ASPA Summit at Peru.

Minister of Interior and Municipalities Marwan Charbel said the Cabinet’s appointments are related to his ministry and pointed out that a committee from the Ministry of Interior will be formed to finalize the draft law of administrative decentralization in preparation for its submission to the Council of Ministers.

For his part, the Minister of Justice Shakib Qortbawi said that the atmosphere regarding the appointments is positive.

As for the Agriculture Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan, he said that the appointments are both judicial and administrative.

He also mentioned that the petroleum committee is not yet constituted.
