Dokmak: We will throw eggs and tomatoes at Syria Mufti convoy

Salafist leader Sheikh Bilal Dokmak told Acharq al Awsat that all Lebanese Islamic movements and associations are looking into ways to deal with the expected visit of Syria's Grand Mufti Ahmed Badreddine Hassoun to Lebanon.

The newspaper reported that Mufti Hassoun’s visit, if carried out, will face fierce opposition, not least from the Sunnis, in light of his support for the Syrian regime.

Dokmak added that consultations are underway to devise a plan that will define how to deal with the expected visit, adding: “Sheikh Ahmad Badreddine Hassoun should not believe that he is welcome [in Lebanon] or that his visit will be pleasurable. On the contrary, it will be received with acute crticism and popular protests.”

“The crowds will be awaiting his arrival at Bkerke with eggs and tomatoes to throw at his convoy, hoping to make their message clear”, Dokmak said.

Dokmak warned the Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Rashid Qabbani against welcoming “the Syrian regime’s mufti”, to avoid putting himself and Dar El Fatwa in unnecessarily complex situations.
