Koura’s Makari says proportional elections “unachievable”

Deputy Speaker MP Farid Makari abstained Friday from commenting on the proposal reached during the Orthodox meeting.

It was proposed during the meeting to draft an electoral law according to which people of the same confession would elect their MPs based on proportional representation. Makari merely said: “I hope the proposal will satisfy the Lebanese, most of all the Christians.”

Makari confirmed to An-Nahar daily that he is “the strongest [candidate] in Koura under any electoral law”, wondering: “why should I comment on an unachievable proposal?”
