Charbel: Security tightened around ESCWA after bomb threats
Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said that the security forces tightened security measures around the ESCWA headquarters in Beirut after receiving bomb threat warnings.

Charbel told AFP that these security measures were undertaken after UN officials voiced fears that the attack targeting a UN headquarters in Nigeria last August will be repeated.
Charbel added that both the security personnel in charge of protecting the ESCWA building and the Lebanese security forces received information about a possible threat.

“I met with Rima Khalaf, ESCWA’s executive secretary and UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Michael Williams, on the eve of his departure, to discuss this issue”, Charbel told the French news agency.

Charbel refused to give any information about the identity of the threatening part or the reason behind the threats, adding that all appropriate measures are being taken to protect the headquarters.  ِ
