EDL workers postpone their strike

Energy Minister Gebran Bassil hoped on Friday that the issue pertaining to the Électricité du Liban (EDL) has been positively solved, stressing that each problem should be approached in a way that ensures "justice for everyone."

Bassil who met with the EDL employees stated that the demands of the workers are being considered .For his part, the head of the EDL employees union Charbel Saleh said that the strike will be temporarily postponed.

In this context, the Ministry of Finance emphasized that the last campaign accusing the ministry of hindering the transfer of money aims at confusing public opinion.

The ministry added that holding it accountable for the power shortages is unacceptable, urging employees to check with the EDL administration and the ministry in charge to reveal the circumstances behind the budget cuts.

Earlier on Monday, EDL workers began a strike to protest the modification of their allocations and benefits that were mentioned in the 2013 EDL draft budget, holding the Finance Ministry responsible for their demise
