Sleiman rejects any electoral law that supports sectarian extremism

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman stressed on Friday that the main goal is reaching an electoral law better than that of the 1960s law, and which reflects democracy, pluralism and national unity, rejecting any law that supports the sectarian extremism.       

During his visit to the headquarters of the UN peacekeeping forces operating in the South, Sleiman praised the Army for the role carried out during the war against Gaza, by controlling the Lebanese border, pointing out that the Arab Spring proved "that the Lebanese Army was right."            

On the Syrian crisis, Sleiman stressed that the Syrians must agree on an appropriate democratic regime to reach unity and stability in Syria.President Michel Sleiman went to South Lebanon on Friday morning aboard a military chopper, accompanied by Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn and Army Commander General Jean Kahwaji.                    

He arrived to the UNIFIL military base in Nakoura where he was received by Kawhaji and UNIFIL Commander Major General Paolo Serra. Sleiman later held a meeting with Serra, whereby the two discussed the cooperation between the Lebanese Army and the UNIFIL.
