Geagea: Hezbollah will be disarmed

The head of the Lebanese Forces Party Samir Geagea said that a radical change will eventually occur in Syria and will have an impact on the internal political scene, weakening Syria’s allies in Lebanon who will not find any political support from any coming regime.

Geagea in an interview with Al-Riyadh newspaper mentioned that with these changes, the Lebanese will no more encounter armed Palestinian groups outside the camps, as they are factions of the Syrian army and intelligence, adding that “Hezbollah training camps in Syria will stop which will have a positive impact on the Lebanese people and daily life”.

Asked about the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s funding Geagea said that any Lebanese reluctance in paying its shares will be seen by the majority of the people as a deprivation from getting closer to reveal the identity of the assassins in the country.

“Objecting to funding the STL will lead to internal tensions as the Lebanese will not watch a minority group deciding the faith of an entire country nor the future of a long anticipated tribunal without taking any actions to prevent such a monopoly”, the newspaper quoted Geagea as saying.  

Geagea pointed out that he is on good terms with Maronite Patriarch Bshara Rai and that Bkerke will always be a reference point for Christians, adding “ I differentiate between the political stances and my personal relation with Rai as I don’t support his political stances; PM Mikati is a good friend but we haven’t been in direct contact lately”.
