Higher Islamic Council holds meeting in a private office, Dar Al Fatwa closed

Several members of the Higher Islamic Council held a meeting Saturday at the office of one of the council’s members, head of the administrative and financial committee Engineer Bassam Barghout after finding the door of the meeting at Dar el Fatwa locked.

Participants called on the Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Mohammad Rachid Qabbani to head the upcoming session to set the main pillars of the election of Awqaf local and administrative councils in addition to vacant positions in Dar el Fatwa and the Higher Islamic Council.

They urged all parties to provide appropriate conditions to call for conducting these elections. Participants are due to look into the re-representation of regions in the council in the upcoming sessions; they stressed the session held was legitimate “since it reached quorum.”
