Cabbies criticize GLC withdrawal from talks
The Head of the taxi-drivers’ union in Lebanon Abdul Amir Najdi criticized the withdrawal of the leadership of the General Labor Confederation (GLC) from the meetings of the price index committee.

“The meetings are an effective way to force the government to pay its dues year by year, instead of them piling up over the years”, Najdi said.

Najdi added that the taxi-drivers’ union have endorsed price controls as well as the demands of workers and poor families since 1996.

Najdi praised the health coverage plan put forth by Labor Minister Charbel Nahhas, regarding it as a convenient solution for all citizens who are not covered by the National Social Security Fund.

“Taxi-drivers will close ranks until their demands are met”, Najdi said, adding that they are calling for the adoption of the transportation plan, exemption from customs and fighting the proliferation of illegal cabs.
