Introduction to the evening news 21-10-2011

With one bullet, or two, Gaddafi has fallen…the third dictator to fall in a long line of Middle Eastern leaders: first, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali who fled prior to detention and trial, second, Husni Mubarak whose state of denial dragged him to the courtroom. As to the third, he hid in Libya but was killed right after his arrest, before even getting to the courtroom.     

Who could the forth in line be? And when?     

Before providing an answer, one must say that the fate of Gaddafi raises many questions: Was he killed on purpose? Or was his liquidation premeditated in order to relieve the transitional power from the burden of a fallen still-alive president? Was he killed by mistake? It is still too early to give a final answer, but the outcome remains the same: Gaddafi was killed and Libya’s liberation is to be announced tomorrow, Saturday.        

Moving to another file, the Turkish-Kurdish open conflict witnessed a remarkable development when Teheran and Ankara announced a common action plan to continue fighting the Kurds, which makes us wonder about the fate of the Syrian-Iranian alliance in light of this emerging Iranian-Turkish coordination.       

On another note, President Obama announced that all U.S. troops will withdraw completely from Iraq by the end of this year.      

Let’s start with an attempt to solve the mystery: How was Gaddafi killed? Who was the man who pulled the trigger?
