MP Harb: Elections are at stake

MP Boutros Harb held on Wednesday the Lebanese government responsible for the unrestricted and random spread of the displaced Syrians in Lebanon, adding that there is a lack of stances that aim at sparing the country a wide-spread disaster.

Following his third meeting with French ambassador to Lebanon Patrice Paoli, MP Harb called on the government to shoulder its responsibility and to resort to the UN in order to reach a solution that prevents Lebanon from the "disaster that may be caused due to the displaced Syrians."

On another note, MP Harb dismissed the probability that the elections will be held on their due time, and said that this issue should be settled in order to spare the country a potential void, adding that “there is a party calling solely for the adoption of the Orthodox Gathering proposal”.

For his part, Paoli stressed that France refuses to meddle in Lebanon's interior affairs, highlighting the need to reach a common ground among the Lebanese in terms of choosing their representatives under "normal" circumstances.

“The EU has decided to raise the cost of assistance provided to Lebanon in terms of sheltering the displaced Syrians by 30 million Euros,” Paoli added.
