Hezbollah holds funeral for fighter killed in Syria

Hezbollah held early on Sunday the funeral of one of its members who was killed in fighting in Syria.

"The funeral of 25-year-old Hassan Nimr Shartouni, took place this morning in Mays al-Jabal (South Lebanon) following the arrival of his body from Syria where he was killed in fighting yesterday (Saturday)," one resident told AFP.

It is worth mentioning that Hezbollah buried a number of fighters killed in Syria in recent months, without giving further information over how these men were killed.

The group has acknowledged that its members residing in Syrian villages at the border with Lebanon have participated in battles against "armed groups" in self-defense.

The issue raised tensions in Lebanon, where the opposition backing the Syrian uprising has accused Hezbollah of endangering the country by intervening in the conflict.

The Syrian conflict, which began with peaceful protests against the Assad regime, entered now its third year.
