UCC suspends its open ended strike

The Union Coordination Committee (UCC) announced on Friday that the referral of the series of ranks and salaries to the Parliament is an achievement, noting that the items approved by the government will take a toll on social welfare since they contradict the agreements reached between the government and  the UCC.

In this context, the UCC declared in a statement that the open ended strike will be suspended as of Saturday but will stage other sit-ins within the confines of UCC legitimate demonstrations should the process faces further obstacles.

Accordingly, the UCC is set to hold a press conference on the 27th of March whereby it will issue a stance in this regard.

The Union Coordinating Committee launched its open ended strike on February 19th 2013 after making repeated calls on Prime Minister Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification.
