Bassil: Christians are back in power

Caretaker Minister of Energy Gebran Bassil said on Sunday that the resigning cabinet led to security chaos in the country and passed through hard circumstances.

During a press conference, Minister Bassil said that the cabinet had several achievements such as building dams, and launching the 2G and 3G services, but at the same time faced various failures such as the incident that took place in Arsal, Sheikh Assir's activities and the incidents that erupted at the Roumieh prison.

Bassil accused Preisdent Michel Sleiman of overthrowing the Christian consensus over the Orthodox Gathering’s electoral draft and rejecting the 1960’s electoral law and added that Prime Minister Najib Mikati went along with him by stopping the cabinet’s sessions until the formation of an Elections Supervisory Committee.

Bassil ended the conference by saying that “Christians are back in power, and that they won’t be marginalized anymore”.
