Speaker Berri calls for General Authority session on Tuesday

House Speaker Nabih Berri called on Monday for a Parliamentary General Authority session to be held on Tuesday at 10:30 am.                

In this framework, Speaker Berri held a meeting for the Parliament’s Bureau in the presence of Deputy Speaker Farid Makari, MPs Marwan Hamadeh, Ahmad Fatfat, Michel Moussa, and Serge Torsarkissian as well as the Secretary General of the Parliament Adnan Daher and discussed the deadline to present candidature applications on the basis of the 1960’s law.                     

In this regard, some deputies called for extending the deadline of submitting candidatures while others called for suspending the acceptance of candidatures on the basis of the 1960’s electoral law.                        

Following the meeting, Deputy Speaker Makari said deputies discussed with Speaker Berri various formulas adding that they will be holding another session before the general authority session to agree upon one final formula.      

Makari hoped for reaching consensus pointing out that political parties’ points of view are not far from one another.
