Tashnag party clears the air on Bourj Hammoud evictions
The Tashnag party said, in an explanatory statement issued on Monday, that Bourj Hammoud was and still is the symbol of coexistence between all confessions and religions living in one geographic area, away from discrimination or segregation.

The statement said that the real issue is simply a reorganization effort in the area, in coordination with the municipality of Bourj Hammoud, given the large number of foreign workers living there. Up to 15 people are living in one or two-bedroom apartments, creating a nuisance for other residents.

Beyond the problems that arise with other residents, the statement also explained that many of the foreign workers are renting illegally and their rental agreements are not properly registered with the municipality.

Speaking out against the recent press coverage, the statement noted, “given that the party’s policy and procedures are no secret to anyone in terms of transparency, cooperation and dialogue, we consider that the information disseminated by the media is completely false and baseless.”
