Caretaker PM Mikati urges unity on Liberation Day

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati voiced on Saturday his hopes that the 13th anniversary of the liberation of the south would unite the Lebanese people.

In a statement issued by his media office, Caretaker PM Mikati said that Liberation Day should “solidify national unity to strengthen the authority of the state.”

He urged the Lebanese people "to be vigilant and not allow Israel to destabilize Lebanon."

Lebanon celebrates today the anniversary of Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon on May 2000.

This year's anniversary coincides with Hezbollah facing growing criticism for its involvement in the fighting taking place in Syria.

“The Lebanese people should be united around safeguarding Lebanon because the ongoing divisions among Lebanese factions serves only Lebanon's enemies,” he concluded.
