MP Sami Gemayel says Lebanon on the edge of civil war

Kataeb MP Sami Gemayel held on Saturday a press conference in which he said that the adoption of the 1960 electoral law in the upcoming parliamentary elections would be " a defeat for Christians in Lebanon."

He added that all efforts exerted to draft a new electoral law were "a charade", lashing out the Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun submission of his candidacy under the 1960 law.

He noted that holding the upcoming parliamentary elections based on the 1960 law means the extension of the parliament's mandate.

On Tripoli, he slammed the state incapability of protecting the city, calling on President Michel Sleiman, Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam "to assume their national responsibilities."

He concluded by saying that the country is "at stake and on the edge of a civil war."
