Lebanese food importers deny fears of food crisis, say supplies sufficient for three months

Hani Bahsali, head of the food importers’ syndicate, and Nabil Fahd, head of the supermarket owners’ syndicate, denied in a joint statement on Thursday warnings by the World Food Program that Lebanon is rapidly heading toward a food security crisis due to war-related supply disruptions.

They said all previously announced data and information remain unchanged, reassuring that Lebanon’s food stocks are sufficient to cover local consumption for about 3 months.

They stressed that supplies are continuing without disruption, noting that ships carrying food are arriving on schedule at Lebanese ports, particularly the Port of Beirut.

They also said that the reopening of the Masnaa Border Crossing represents a vital and positive factor in supplying Lebanon with food.
