US Embassy says Constitutional Council should consider appeals without political intervention

The US Embassy in Lebanon said on Wednesday that Lebanon's Constitutional Council should consider the challenges lying ahead without political intervention.

This comes as lack of quorum prevented, for the second consecutive day, the council from taking a decision regarding the petitions filed against the extension of parliament's mandate.

The embassy said on Twitter that boycotting the Constitutional Council further erodes democracy in Lebanon and shows a lack of respect to the rule of law.
