Queen Elizabeth II passes away aged 96

Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled the United Kingdom for the longest period of time, passed away on Thursday at the age of 96, according to the Buckingham Palace.

According to centuries-old protocol, her eldest son Charles, 73, will automatically succeed her and begin a new, unclear chapter for the royal family after the reign of the queen, who set a record by holding the throne for 70 years.
