Efforts to dismantle Hamas tunnels face setback as 80% remain intact

Officials from the United States and Israel have confirmed that up to 80 percent of Hamas' extensive tunnels beneath Gaza remain intact, despite Israeli efforts to destroy them in recent weeks.

Israeli officials emphasized that "thwarting Hamas' ability to use the tunnels is the cornerstone of Israel's efforts to apprehend senior Hamas leaders and rescue the remaining Israeli hostages."

Israel clarified that it conducted strikes on hospitals and other key infrastructure in its pursuit of the tunnels.
