New regime not responsible for past Lebanon ties, Syria's foreign minister says

Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, speaking from Abu Dhabi, emphasized that the new Syrian regime does not bear the consequences of the strained relationship once imposed by the Assad regime on Lebanon.

He urged the Lebanese people and government not to hold Syria accountable for the repercussions of this past relationship.

He added, "We will stand by Lebanon whenever it desires."
