REPORT: Al-Assir’s whereabouts remain unknown

A number of Sheikhs close to Ahmad al-Assir stressed that reports on the latter’s escape to Syria seem logical and believable, noting that the Lebanese parties are not capable of protecting him or bearing the responsibility of his protection.

The Sheikhs told LBCI that al-Assir’s may have escaped to Syria without informing the Free Syrian Army, pointing out that “there are many groups in Syria that express solidarity with Assir and form independent states.”

However, the security apparatuses concerned with the investigations regarding Abra clashes refuse to comment on such statements, since it cannot confirm whether al-Assir is in Lebanon or abroad.

This report will highlight the latest developments in the case of Ahmad al-Assir as well as the reaction of al-Assir’s family after the release of an audio recording a couple of days ago.
