REPORT: Blacklisting Hezbollah triggers chain of conflicting reactions

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati commented on the decision issued by the European Union to blacklist Hezbollah, stressing that the Lebanese community with all its components is keen on committing to the international legitimacy and preserving best relations with the EU states, but adding however that the union should have carried out an additional study to the facts.                

For his part, caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour said that the decision is "hasty" and will have severe repercussions on the Lebanese political life, pointing out that the negative positions of some Lebanese parties against Hezbollah, mainly in the issue of the cabinet, have contributed to the issuance of this decision.              

On the international level, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the European decision, hoping that this decision will be the beginning of further measures to be taken against the Shiite party.            

He added that Israel has deployed strong efforts over the past few years to reveal to the EU that Hezbollah is the terrorist wing of the Iranian regime and is responsible for several terrorist attacks across the world.                              

In turn, the Syrian opposition said that the EU's decision is incomplete, since "the military wing implements the decisions of the political wing, therefore both are considered involved in terror."                      

According to a member of the political committee of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces Fayez Sara, the European move is also late and came two months after Hezbollah interfered in Syria.
