REPORT: Grand Mufti Qabbani calls for unity among Sunni community

Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani warned on Thursday against sedition and called for unity among the Sunni community despite being snubbed by the sect's top political leaders.

Qabbani made the appeal during his Eid al-Fitr sermon in the absence of caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam, former Prime Ministers Fouad Siniora and Omar Karami as well as Future bloc MPs.

Mufti Qabbani called on the Lebanese politicians to unify Muslims and not to be tempted by power.

This year's Eid comes amid attempts by the Lebanese political leaders of the Sunni sect to force him out while he is keen on remaining in office until next year’s elections.
