REPORT: President Sleiman calls for shielding Lebanon from potential regional spillover

       
President Michel Sleiman called on Sunday for shielding Lebanon from regional and international conflicts, highlighting the need to broker a political settlement for the Syrian crisis and to reject the foreign military intervention in Syria.          

"We condemn the use of chemical weapons and we urge the United Nations to hold the perpetrators accountable," President Sleiman added.               

In a speech he delivered at the Beiteddine Palace to mark the 93rd anniversary of the State of Greater Lebanon, Sleiman called on all parties to shield Lebanon's territories and citizens from the repercussions of a potential regional spillover.               

Separately, President Sleiman urged the Lebanese parties to facilitate the mission of Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam, stressing the need to resume national dialogue and to abide by the Baabda Declaration.               

This as Future Bloc MP Bahia Hariri donated her government salary since 2009 to a fund that finances development and humanitarian work in Lebanon, under the supervision of President Sleiman.           

"I am honored to donate all that I was paid, which equals the amount of 25,282,500 LBP, to a fund that will assist in development and humanitarian work," Hariri said at the Beiteddine Palace after talks with President Sleiman.
