REPORT: Mikati calls for adherence to dissociation policy after meeting Patriarch Rai

 
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati described Wednesday the current living condition of the Lebanese people as dire and blamed the escalating situation in the region; however, stressed that they "are all capable of facing them by reconsidering the self-dissociation previously adopted."                          

Following a meeting with Maronite bishops at the patriarchal summer residence in Diman, Mikati said that national dialogue sessions are necessary to resolve conflicting issues.

On another note, PM Mikati thanked Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai for visiting the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, adding that the latter's visit confirmed that the fate of all the Lebanese is unanimous             

Following a separate meeting with Patriarch Rai, PM Mikati urged officials to adhere to the self-dissociation policy, and called on all parties to keep Lebanon aside from all regional conflicts. 

For his part, President Michel Sleiman said that the negative rhetoric launched by several officials can only harm Lebanon's reputation, stressing that he will seek unity and solidarity among the Lebanese parties.

Sleiman, who had postponed his visit to Diman when an attack targeted the region of Roueis three weeks ago, participated with Patriarch Rai in a series of activities and meetings.

In this context, Rai praised Sleiman's wisdom and efforts deployed to serve the country's best interests.
