Lebanon escapes a disaster as LAF seize 500 kg of explosives in the Bekaa [VIDEO, PHOTOS]

The Lebanese Armed Forces dismantled Friday dawn a booby-trapped car containing a large load of explosives in the region between the towns of Maqneh and Younin in northern Bekaa. The vehicle was loaded with 500 Kg of explosives and two heavy shells.

In this context, sources reported that the vehicle is a Buick that was detected in the Bekaa heading toward Beirut.

The sources pointed out that the booby-trapped car was escorted by another vehicle, adding that clashes that escalated to an exchange of fire erupted between the drivers and unidentified assailants, leading them to abandon the car in the middle of the road and flee toward an unknown destination.

Accordingly, LAF units cordoned off the area, evacuated the nearby houses from their residents and blocked the highway in order to dismantle the car bomb and launch an investigation in the case.

However, a security source told LBCI that the investigations revealed that the vehicle has no records in Lebanon, noting that additional investigations are underway to verify the authenticity of the registration plate.

The source confirmed that a clash had erupted between the vehicle’s passengers and another group, adding that the passengers escaped to an unknown direction.
