REPORT: ISF commander in Tripoli says Father Sarrouj has nothing to do with anti-Islam article

"Investigations have proved that Father Ibrahim Sarrouj has nothing to do with the published article deemed insulting to Islam," the Internal Security Forces (ISF) commander in Tripoli Brigadier General Bassam al-Ayoubi said on Saturday.        

Ayoubi also said in a press conference held in Tripoli's Serail that the article was written by someone dubbed Ahmad al-Kadi.        

For his part, Sheikh Salem Al-Rafei noted that some parties want to sow sedition among Muslims and Christians in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli.

This comes after caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned via twitter, the act of burning al-saeh Library in Tripoli, which belongs to Father Ibrahim Sarrouj, rejecting any harm to the city.

“Tripoli is and will remain the city of knowledge, and we reject any act that harms our city’s reputation,” he added.

This as, the head of the Future bloc Fouad Siniora denounced the said incident, deeming it a suspicious crime. He said that those who committed this act seek to destabilize the country and tarnish the reputation of the northern city of Tripoli.


On Friday night, unknown assailants set fire to a famous library owned by Father Ibrahim Sarrouj in the northern city of Tripoli, after reports claimed that the father had published an article deemed insulting to Islam.

Al-Saeh Library is considered one of the most renowned libraries in Tripoli and the second largest in Lebanon.

Sarrouj says the library contains more than 70,000 books.
