REPORT: Mansour after meeting with Zarif: Political dialogue sole solution for Syrian crisis

Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour declared Monday that the Syrian crisis can only be resolved through political dialogue, “which is why all the countries are looking forward to hold the Geneva 2 peace conference.”    

“If Iran will not take part in Geneva 2 conference, its regional role will not change,” he said.  

In a joint press conference held with Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif, the latter noted that his visited was accompanied by political initiatives aiming at holding talks in order to facilitate the formation of a cabinet, stressing the need to reach a peaceful solution for the Syrian crisis.    

In this context, Zarif said that Iran completely rejects any form of preconditions to its participation in the Geneva 2 conference, adding that its role in the peace talks may lead to a solution.    

“We appreciate the efforts exerted in order to unveil the terrorists who implemented the attack against the Iranian Embassy in Beirut,” the Iranian FM said, calling for fighting against the phenomenon of terrorism and extremism in the region.
