REPORT: Cabinet formation still pending amid exchange of political messages between rival parties

The leader of the Kataeb party declared Sunday that his party will not approve any cabinet, but a cabinet capable of performing its duties, noting that they will have a positive position once a proposition is presented. 

During a press conference held in Bekfayya, Gemayel stressed that he is holding contacts with former PM Saad Hariri and President Michel Sleiman in order to reach a cabinet that satisfy all the parties and meet the needs of the citizens.

For his part, caretaker Energy Minister Gebran Bassil said the Christians in Lebanon must be fairly represented in the Parliament and in the government, stressing the need to elect a strong president.

In turn, the head of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Mohammad Raad hoped Sunday that the upcoming cabinet will be capable of easing the tension and ending the strategic dangers threatening the country.

During a memorial service, Raad said that “this is not the time to discuss the content of the ministerial statement,” stressing that they will not change their beliefs.

In this context, he added that Hezbollah and its allies are open for all proposals that aim at leading the country to safe harbor and prevent it from being dragged into deadly chaos.

“This aim may require concessions from both parties,” he stated, noting that his party would present concessions without affecting its strategies and choices.

“Depending on regional and international forces to protect Lebanon’s security and stability is nonsense,” he said.
