REPORT: Speaker Berri refuses to meet with ABL delegation

Sources told LBCI on Friday that Speaker Nabih Berri is upset by the statements made by Francois Bassil, head of the Association of Banks in Lebanon (ABL).

Speaker Berri also refused to meet with a delegation from the Association of Banks in Lebanon before receiving an official apology over its stance regarding tax measures proposed by the Joint Parliamentary Committees to fund the new Pay Scale.

“Berri will not meet with the delegation unless the head of the ABL, Francois Bassil, apologizes to the press over the verbal attack he launched against lawmakers and the parliament,” the state-run National News Agency reported.

The ABL has voiced its rejection to the taxes suggested by Lebanese MPs to cover the expenses of the new wage scale the Union Coordination Committee is demanding to be endorsed by parliament.

Banks located in Jbeil and Amchit closed their doors on Friday upon the call of the Association of Banks in Lebanon, the state-run National News Agency reported.
