REPORT: Higher Committee for Elementary Contract Teachers holds demonstration

The Higher Committee for Elementary Contract Teachers staged a sit-in on Tuesday outside the Education Ministry and called on Education Minister Elias Bou Saab and other officials to respond to their demands raised years ago.

Fadi Obeid, Head of the Committee, read a statement whereby he dubbed the teachers among "the most marginalized group in this country".

"We believe it is time to be fair and to give us our legitimate rights," he added.

Obeid also called for "just and radical solutions" that preserve the rights of all contract teachers by rendering them full-timers for the Education Ministry and by signing the decision to increase their hourly wage, in addition to other demands.
