The US ambassador to Lebanon David Hale stressed on Friday that the presidential and parliamentary elections in Lebanon are “entirely Lebanese processes,” calling on the Lebanese people to wisely and seriously choose their leaders.
Following his meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain al-Tineh, Hale said that Lebanon is facing a range of economic, security and social issues, stressing the importance of the government’s role in dealing with these matters.
Answering a question on Washington’s role in Lebanon’s presidential elections, Hale said that his country’s role “is to assist the Lebanese in protecting their process so that a Lebanese president will be elected by the Lebanese, according to the Constitution and on time.”
“The US has no role in picking or choosing a candidate, nor should any other foreign power, this is the right and responsibility of the Lebanese,” he asserted. To watch Maroun Nassif's report, please click on the VIDEO above
