REPORT: Lebanon's government agrees on cabinet's work mechanism
The Lebanese cabinet reached on Thursday an agreement over the government's work mechanism by laying controversial issues aside and agreeing on the main agenda items.

In this regard, the cabinet wrapped up agenda discussions and approved most of the items as it convened at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tammam Salam.

During the session, the issue of enforcing visa restrictions on Gulf nationals topped the discussions, while Telecommunications Minister Boutros Harb said that agreement was reached "to keep the current situation as is."

Prior to the session, Minister of Interior Nohad Machnouq stressed that Lebanon will not enforce new visa rules on Gulf citizens, adding that Lebanon is very keen on its relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

In turn, Minister of Justice Achraf Rifi said that if Lebanon were to enforce visa restrictions on Gulf nationals, the same would have to be imposed on Iranian travelers coming into the country.

Sources told As-Safir newspaper on Thursday that the Lebanese authorities will take a series of measures at the land and maritime borders, as well as at Beirut International Airport to avert security threats.

The same sources added that the Lebanese authorities will oblige Gulf nationals to obtain the Lebanese visas in advance rather than getting them upon their arrival in Beirut in order to avoid the infiltration of terrorists into the country.
