REPORT: Lebanese army seizes weapons, explosives during raids in Akkar’s Fneideq
Sources told LBCI on Saturday that the Lebanese army seized arms caches and improvised explosive devices during raids in the Akkar town of Fneideq.

This comes after a number of detainees confessed that they were providing suicide bombers with explosive belts and IEDs, the latest of which were supplied to the Duroy Hotel suicide bomber.

A Lebanese Armed Forces unit conducted raids on Saturday morning in Fneideq and the surrounding areas, including the Aziziyeh encampment for Syrian refugees, the al-Kafroun region and the area near Jisr Ain al-Banat.

Later on, the Army Command- Orientation Directorate said detainees Alaa Kanaan and Mahmoud Khaled, who belong to a terrorist organization, confessed that they had been using a cave in Fneideq’s barren range, along with other accomplices, to manufacture explosives for terrorist ends.

Accordingly, a military unit raided the mentioned cave where it seized explosives ready for detonation, weapons, CDs, cellphones as well as documents and books teaching how to manufacture explosives.

Investigations with the detainees are ongoing under the supervision of the concerned judiciary.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at the Duroy Hotel in Beirut's Raouche region on Wednesday as General Security forces were conducting a raid, wounding several people, including members from the General Security.

The attack is the third blast in the country in less than a week.
