REPORT: LF leader Geagea marks 9th anniversary of his release from prison

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said on Friday that the Middle East is now trying to break the jail it has been stuck in, noting that the Cedar Revolution freed him from prison.

"We in the Levant are living in a prison that is much bigger than the one I was in," Geagea said in a speech marking the 9th anniversary of his release from jail.

"In Lebanon, we are also stuck in a prison cell they are always trying to put us in," Geagea said, adding that this cell "does not have a president" under the excuse of "preserving the rights of Christians."

Geagea was first sentenced to death for the car bomb attack on then defense minister Michel al-Murr. But the sentence was immediately commuted to life imprisonment.

He had been jailed for 11 years over his war crimes and assassinations, including that of former PM Rashid Karami. His sentence ended by a public amnesty.

He was released from prison on the 26th of July 2005.
