REPORT: Funeral held for Lebanese soldier killed by bomb in Arsal
The Army Command and Sidon residents held on Saturday a funeral for Lebanese Armed Forces martyr Ali Ahmad Hamadi al-Kharrat and his father who had been in a coma since over a month.

The funeral was held amid tight security measures undertaken by a military unit which deployed since the early morning near the Martyrs' Mosque in Sidon.
        
Kharrat’s body was transferred, at around 4 p.m., to the Martyrs' Mosque where Tyre’s Mufti Sheikh Medrar Hibal delivered a sermon in the presence of senior figures, clerics and worshippers.        

Kharrat and another soldier were killed by a roadside bomb in Arsal’s Wadi Hmeid on Friday Sept.19, security sources said; the first such attack since Islamists militants from Syria staged a deadly incursion there last month.        

Three soldiers were wounded by the bomb that hit a military personnel carrier in the northeastern border town of Arsal, where the army battled militants affiliated to Islamic State and other insurgent groups for five days last month.       

Following the bombing, soldiers raided houses in the town in search of militants, security sources said. The army later used “heavy weapons” to target militant positions around Arsal, the state news agency reported.        

Arsal, a Sunni Muslim town, has become a refuge for tens of thousands of Syrians fleeing the country's civil war.
