REPORT: LAF soldier killed in Tripoli’s al-Beddawi - Army Command
The Army Command-Orientation Directorate said in a statement that a Lebanese Armed Forces soldier identified as Mohammad Khaled Hussein was killed on Tuesday after gunmen opened fire at an army post in Tripoli’s al-Beddawi region.

The statement added that army troops responded to the attack by opening fire on the perpetrators, adding that military units were pursuing them to arrest them.

The spillover from the Syrian war has raised sectarian tensions in Lebanon, where Sunnis and Shiites back opposing sides of the neighboring conflict. These tensions have had their effect on the Lebanese army and security forces whereby troops deployed to implement a security plan across volatile regions that include Tripoli and the Bekaa have become the target of sporadic attacks.
