REPORT: Minister Bassil kicks off tour to Akkar
Minister of Foreign  Affairs Gebran Bassil kicked off on Sunday  a tour to Akkar, visiting the  border village of Ramah, where he had previously launched a water well and new lighting for the town.

“In this remote border region that is far from the central government,  water and services are a right that the state owes to the Lebanese people,” Bassil stressed.

For his part, the town’s retired mayor Hanna Makdessi said that not a single official has visited this border area since 1943, adding that the region suffers from "great deprivation.”

“The town has had a water shortage since 1964,” he added.

On Friday, Bassil went to the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon, the first such visit by a Lebanese foreign minister to the peacekeeping mission since 1978.
