REPORT: Lebanon marks first anniversary of Mohammad Chatah’s assassination

The head of the Future bloc Fouad Siniora stressed Saturday that all the Lebanese people need to achieve a breakthrough concerning the election of a new president, pointing out that the approaches launched by some parties are no longer convincing or durable, since they do not conform with the current situation and circumstances.

During a ceremony held to mark the first anniversary of late Minister Mohammad Chatah’s assassination, Siniora said that “current risks require real changes, where the politicians need to make compromises for the interest of the country.”

“Our dialogue with Hezbollah aims at paving the way before the revival of the notion of being attached to one’s nation,” he added.

In turn, Telecommunications Minister Boutros Harb hoped that the dialogue between Hezbollah and the Future Movement will have a positive and real outcome, rather than just easing the sectarian tension.

Harb noted that March 14 coalition was built on national principles defended by dialogue.

For his part, Beirut’s Head of Municipality Bilal Hamad declared that the street where the assassination took place will be named after “Minister Mohammad Chatah.”
