REPORT: Cabinet holds session, fails to reach solution for solid waste issue

The Lebanese cabinet held on Thursday a session where the ministers discussed the dossier pertaining to solid waste management, without being able to reach a final decision in this regard.

Accordingly, Prime Minister Tammam Salam, who was chairing the meeting, adjourned the session, refusing to set a new date for another meeting, unless a solution for the crisis is reached.

Following the cabinet session, Health Minister Wael Abou Faour stressed that the ministers of the Progressive Socialist Party insisted on the need to close the al-Naameh landfill as scheduled, rejecting the extension of its mandate.

“There is no solution looming in the horizon, we are bound to a real crisis,” he said.

Prior to the session, Environment Minister Mouhammad Mashnouq stated that “no other item listed on the cabinet’s agenda will be tackled before reaching a solution for the said dossier.”
