REPORT: Lebanese army tightens security measures across Tripoli streets following Saturday’s attack

Tension prevailed Sunday over Tripoli’s Jabal Mohsen area on the backdrop of the terrorist attack targeted a café in the region, killing nine people on Saturday.

Accordingly, the Lebanese Armed Forces set up a security cordon around Café Omran in Jabal Mohsen, while imposing tight security measures across the streets of the northern city in order to restore stability.

In the same context, Tripoli’s official figures urged to citizens to exercise restraint and calmness, in a bid to prevent bloodshed in the city.

On Saturday night, a double suicide bomb attack on a cafe in the Lebanese city of Tripoli killed 9 people and wounded at least 20, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The attack targeted a cafe in the predominantly Alawite neighborhood of Jabal Mohsen, the agency reported, quoting its correspondent. It said the second bomber struck after people had gathered following the first explosion.

The governor of the North ordered a curfew in Tripoli’s Jabal Mohsen and the surrounding areas until Sunday 7 a.m.

The last major flare-up in the city was in October, when at least 11 soldiers and 22 militants were killed in clashes between Sunni militants and the army.
