On Wednesday January 21, the General Prosecution issued arrest warrants against all persons involved in the killing of Yves Nawfal, saying that their sentence may reach the death penalty.
The Internal Security Forces announced on Saturday (January 17) via its Twitter account that the Information Bureau arrested Charbel Khalil Khalil and Juliano Saadeh who are reportedly involved in the murder of Yves Nawfal.
Families of Charbel Khalil Khalil and Juliano Maroun Saadeh declared that they handed over their sons to authorities.
Meanwhile, Charbel George Khalil who was arrested on Wednesday (January 14) in the northern Bekaa town of Brital confessed that he was the main instigator in the murder.
The Internal Security Forces had confirmed through its official Twitter account that “after the Intelligence Branch apprehended Khalil in the region of Brital, the Jounieh investigation department seized in Buqaatat Ashqout the Wrangler SUV that was used by the armed men who killed Yves Nawfal.”
The state-run National News Agency had reported that Yves and “his friend, Saba Nader, were having a night out in one of Faraya's Oyoun al-Siman restaurants where a dispute between him and two other men occurred over a girl who was in the same restaurant.”
According to NNA, “the dispute ended quickly and Nawfal left the place.”
But the two other men followed Nawfal and his friend to a “Total” gas station on Oyoun al-Siman’s road, firing at them from a pistol and a Kalashnikov assault rifle, the agency said.
A video obtained exclusively by LBCI was broadcast on Sunday (January 11) showing individuals carrying machine guns near the gas station, where they appeared to be waiting for the targeted car.
The moment the car passes by, the armed men open fire.
